Simeon Walker - 'Mono' Album Launch
Simeon Walker + AJIMAL
Entry Requirements: 16+
Simeon Walker is a pianist & composer from Leeds in the UK. A professional musician, he has been an active member of the UK music scene, performing with numerous bands and musicians. His debut solo EP 'Preface' was released last year on Swedish label 1631 Recordings to significant acclaim across the modern classical genre.
This success came off the back of inclusions on the 2016 & 2017 Official Piano Day Playlists, compiled by German luminary Nils Frahm. Walker is part of a burgeoning scene within the modern/contemporary/neo-classical world with the likes of Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, Max Richter and label Erased Tapes leading the way in bringing a predominantly small, niche genre to wider attention.
Following a year of composing and recording, Simeon Walker releases the follow up to ‘Preface’, his debut full-length album ‘Mono’ on 24th November. Available for the first time on vinyl and CD, he will celebrate the release of the record with an album launch at Holy Trinity Church in Leeds on 30th November alongside a selection of secret shows around the UK and a European tour to follow in 2018.

Simeon Walker is a pianist and composer from Leeds. Having been an active member of the UK music scene for 10 years, playing in and performing with numerous bands and artists, he is now embarking on an exciting and promising solo career.
His debut release, the ‘Preface’ EP, was released by modern-classical label 1631 Recordings, with the closing song ‘Compline’ featuring on the Official 2016 Piano Day Playlist, compiled by minimalist piano luminary Nils Frahm.
With influences ranging from the minimalist/modern-classical works of Frahm, Olafur Arnalds and Max Richter, the cinematic feeling of Michael Nyman, Ludovico Einaudi and Yann Tiersen through to the established weight of late Romantic/early 20th Century composers such as Chopin, Debussy and Satie, his music has been receiving wide and great acclaim, receiving numerous broadcasts on BBC Radio stations across the UK.
Described as “endearingly lo-fi, melancholic, and warm” by the Overblown music blog, and with online music writer Stationary Travels praising the ‘Preface’ EP’ for the way “each piece balances minimalism with melancholic beauty for a particularly intimate and introspective feel”, there is plenty to be excited about for what 2017 and the future holds for the young composer.
Fran O'Hanlon acquired the name AJIMAL in the aftermath of being caught up in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. Debut album, CHILDHOOD features a cast of more than 50 musicians explores ideas of youth, potential and play through a mix of contemporary, classical, and field recordings.
Working alongside Guy Massey (The Beatles, Spiritualised, Bill Fay, The Divine Comedy), his sophomore release is due in early 2018.
“Setting a new benchmark for sensitive pop.” The Line of Best Fit “Touches of Bon Iver and Jeff Buckley ring true, however AJIMAL sculpts an illimitable soundscape that is entirely his own.” Crack in the Road “Idiosyncratic, heart-wrenching songs.” NME
